Many entrepreneurs in the eyewear industry are often troubled: Small eyewear stores have limited space. How can they customize furniture to accommodate sufficient products while also making customers feel fresh and professional? Today, we take a typical small optical store like Ajanta Optics as an example to break down the core logic and implementation details of furniture customization in its interior design, providing you with practical ideas for reference.

Double-sided high display cabinet

Structural Design: The cabinet utilizes a “tiered shelf + bottom drawer” combination. The upper shelf tiers are kept 20-30cm high (to ensure visual comfort for displaying frames and facilitate access for staff). Each tier features a slightly curved, anti-slip edge to prevent cases from slipping.

Material and Color: The cabinet frame features a light wood color (to mitigate the sense of oppression in the small space and create a warm atmosphere), while the exterior panels are light green (to reflect the brand’s “youthful and fresh” aesthetic). Moisture- and scratch-resistant high-density board is preferred – optical shops require frequent cleaning, so moisture resistance extends the life of the furniture, while scratch resistance maintains a clean appearance.

Extended Functionality: The double-sided design allows customers to browse products from both sides, achieving “two uses in one cabinet,” increasing the effective display area by approximately 30% in a space of approximately 10 square meters. The bottom drawer is used to store spare frames, cleaning tools, and other items, ensuring a clean front display area.

Take the central island of the case store as an example. It adopts a combination of “low platform + transparent display box + brand logo”. The height of the low platform is approximately 90cm (ergonomic, allowing customers to lean on it naturally or place items on it when trying it on). The transparent display box on the countertop is equipped with soft lighting, which is used to display fine eyewear or the main products of the season. The lighting can highlight the texture of the lenses and frames.

A small drawer and power port are reserved under the center island, where store staff can temporarily adjust frames, replace nose pads, or even connect optometrist equipment for customers, upgrading the center island from a “mere display” to a “light service station” and improving customer experience efficiency.

Low display cabinet

The cabinet is approximately 60cm tall, with the upper section consisting of transparent compartments (similar to jewelry display cases, perfectly sized to accommodate a pair of glasses with a case) and the lower section consisting of closed drawers. The transparent compartments are made of ultra-clear glass (for high transparency, preventing the glasses from appearing “dull”). The drawers are divided into sections (by frame material and price range) to facilitate quick product retrieval.

While tall cabinets display a full range of products, lower cabinets can focus on specific styles (such as children’s glasses or sunglasses), helping customers find what they need precisely. Furthermore, the drawers’ storage function eliminates clutter in small spaces and facilitates more organized inventory management.

Brand Logo Wall: The brand name and eyewear logo on the wall of the eyewear store in this case study should be custom-sized with careful attention to the font size (clearly identifiable from the doorway without creating an oppressive feeling). Use a metallic paint finish (high-quality and fade-resistant).

Product Light Box: This wall-mounted light box is used to display posters for different eyewear series. The frame should be thin (to reduce the appearance of heaviness). Choose a neutral 4000K light source (to restore the true color of the glasses and avoid color casts that could affect customer perception). A magnetic or slotted back panel should be used to facilitate the replacement of posters later.

Store Layout

The biggest concern in small spaces is “furniture dimensions that don’t fit the space.” Before customizing, use a laser rangefinder to precisely measure the store’s length, width, and ceiling height, even including the location of pillars and plumbing pipes. In this example store, for example, tall cabinets are only about 10 cm from the wall on both sides. By using rounded corners (to prevent bumps) and precise measurements, this minimizes wasted space while ensuring at least 80 cm of clearance (enough for two people to pass each other).

Glass-shaped hanging decorations throughout the store reinforce the category identity of “eyewear store” while also avoiding a monotonous overhead space. When customizing, prioritize lightweight materials (such as wrought iron spray-coated plastic, which is lightweight and rust-resistant), and align the dimensions with the store’s ceiling height (if the ceiling height is approximately 2.8 meters, keep the diameter of decorative pieces within 50 cm to avoid a sense of oppression). The entrance display wall often features posters of popular or iconic glasses, along with small display cases (for one or two pairs of real glasses). The display grid glass is anti-glare treated (to prevent sunlight or light reflections from affecting viewing) and is positioned at eye level to facilitate customer viewing.
