When you open the door to this surf shop, you are immediately struck by the bright and airy atmosphere, rather than by all of the many items on display. This isn’t to say that the shelves are overcrowded- there are none! Just soft colour surfboards, lush, draping green plants, and wooden furniture with a light texture create a feeling of relaxation in the store interior.

1. Style

This surf shop reflects the surfer’s lifestyle, rather than just selling products. The primary stylistic element of the store is a minimalist coastal theme. The main feature of the store’s style is decoration. Using the whitest color you can use as a base for emphasizing how cleanly defined the surf culture is.

The white walls and ceilings make up the physical structure. The light-grey floor complements the white ceiling and wall by providing both a water-resistant and durable surface so the entire space is bright and transparent.

The use of large windows and an outdoor patio area allows the palm trees outside and view of the street beyond to become part of the exhibition. When a customer enters the surf shop, it is almost as if they have never left the beach and thus meets their desire for both freedom and a natural environment.

2. Spatial Planning

The store’s layout embraces explorative and experiential. It encourages customers to explore and discover hidden surprises throughout their journey.

Entrance area: A large wooden atoll island table sits in the centre of the entrance area with printed towels, vintage baseball hats and folded t-shirts poised on top.

Surf display area: The entire left wall features numerous wooden displays with variations in thickness, all containing surfboard displays with similar gradual tones from very dark to very light. The design of these surf display racks includes an embedded design allowing them to save space and allows customers to touch and feel the material that covers surfboards very closely.

Clothing section: The wood product display hanger heights are appropriately spaced. The cap and sunglasses display on the upper shelf are immediately conspicuous when walking in the store.

Lounge section: Add a wooden bench against the window. Add a potted plant in a woven basket. This will allow tired customers to take a seat and enjoy the view outside the window.

3. Furniture Selection

Solid wood island table: One of the pieces of furniture chosen was a solid wood island table. The table preserves the natural wood grain of the material and has long, slender metal legs. This item serves two purposes: it can use as a display and as a place for customers to temporarily put their items on. The two functions of this item allow for both utility and beauty.

Wall panel rack: The wall panel rack consists of light wood colour solid wood panels, and supports have a hidden design feature. This design gives the appearance of the panels hanging on the wall. This design not only allows for surfboards to be hung on the wall as decoration, but it also will not obstruct the placement of smaller items like sunglasses or aromatherapy products.

Leisure bench: The leisure bench is made up of a frame constructed of light-colored wood and a seat covered in a caramel coloured leather material. Leather has a smooth and durable feel. Therefore, this will be the main seating within the seating area of the store.

4. Reception Desk

Coloring: With an olive green hue resembling comfort, this reception desk matches the colorful tones of coastal furniture. This will provide a strong visual contrast against the white background of the walls and the overall reception area.

Functional layout: The reception desk has a countertop large enough to hold the equipment for the cash register, brochures, and supplies for sale. The underside of the reception desk holds receipts. Two bar stools match the wood and metal of the island table positioned in front of the reception desk for customer interaction with staff.

Creative elements: On the wall above the reception desk are multiple flags with surfing themes printed on them. Surf paintings in different colors hang above the reception desk as additional decorative elements.

5. Wall-Mounted Frame

Surf display: The wall-mounted rack on the left has horizontally located wood supports. This style of display gives the wall space maximum use while visually integrating into the décor.

Shelving systems: The wall-mounted rack on the right-side wall contains an upper and lower layer of shelving. The upper layer is for the display of coffee mugs and candles and the lower layer is for the storage. Each shelf has rounded edges so there will not be any bumps. Each shelf contains details in order to show customers that the company cares about them.

Themed wall decoration: The perforated board above the reception pole displays a large number of item-specific items. The display is easily change so that the company can update the display at any time, allowing for the continued freshness of being in the company.
